Grammar Picnic has no accounts or ads. The site does not send practice answers or scores to a server.

Usage statistics

We record first-party usage events: pages opened, time visible, source labels from our links, referring website domains, settings changed, searches opened and result pages selected, practice started or finished, and print and PDF actions. Events include a timestamp, country and a random session ID kept in session storage for this browser tab. We do not use analytics cookies or a persistent visitor ID, and do not store IP addresses in these events.

A tab’s first event also says whether this is your first day on the site or a return, as a band (first day, second day, 3 to 5 days, 6 or more), and roughly how long since the last day here (within a day, a week, a month, or longer). Your browser keeps the date of your last visit and a count of days, capped at seven, in local storage; it sends only the band, never the date, the count or an ID. We can see what share of visits are returns without knowing which visits belong together.

We do not record practice answers, scores, search text, magic words, basket codes or worksheet seeds. Printing and PDF events indicate an action in the browser, not proof that a sheet was printed. Only events sent to grammarpicnic.com are stored. A copy hosted on another website can report its host and page without a session ID.

On your device

Your palette and light or dark preference, and the date of your last visit with a day count, are saved in this browser’s local storage. Clearing this site’s browser data removes them.

When you print a sheet or save it as a PDF, its basket code, the date and the page address are kept in this browser’s local storage for Saved baskets. They are not sent anywhere. Remove them on that page, or clear this site’s browser data.

Practice answers and scores stay in the open page’s memory. They are lost when the page reloads or closes.

Links and search

The set code and view settings appear after # in the page address. A shared link reopens the exercises; it does not contain your answers or score.

The sentences are made on our server. To show a set, an example or a daily sheet, the page sends its code, and nothing else about you or your work, and gets the sentences back. Answers are still checked in the page, and answers and scores are not sent.

Search downloads the site’s search index and matches your query in the browser. Search text is not sent to a search service.

Printing and downloads

A worksheet’s sentences come from our server; the sheet and its PDF are laid out in your browser. The site does not upload them. Files you save are managed by your device and any storage service you choose.

Hosting and external links

Cloudflare hosts the site. Requests for pages, assets and sentences include connection information, such as your IP address and browser information, and a request for sentences includes its set code. Hosting and diagnostic logs are separate from practice answers, which are never sent. Your IP address is also used, briefly and without being stored by us, to limit how many sets one address can ask for in a minute. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
